REGENERATING THE FUTURE
Hines’ exceptional partnership with Legambiente, Italy’s most prominent environmental association, aims to strengthen their mutual commitment to promoting social innovation projects in the local area. These projects are designed to encourage community participation in urban regeneration and enhancement initiatives.
The “Regenerating the Future” project engaged primary school students of the district from the comprehensive institutes “Iqbal Masih” and “San Giuseppe Calasanzio” through the exploration of the area and educational workshops aimed at co-designing the future of their city.
Sport, an outstanding medium for guiding individuals towards sustainable practices and lifestyles, culminated in the program during the Milan leg of the “Ecolimpiadi“, a campaign by Legambiente supported by Hines and Ecopneus. The event featured environmental and sports education activities, curated by Olimpia Milano, an Italian basketball team, and the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL).
Launched in March 2023, “Regenerating the Future” offered primary school students a curriculum curated by “Legambiente Scuola e Formazione” (Legambiente School and Education). This curriculum focused not only on enhancing and regenerating the surrounding urban environment but also on fostering greater civic awareness among students and their families.
The journey concluded with the Milan stage of the “Ecolimpiadi”, which engaged both young and adult participants, further strengthening the connection between sports and sustainability.
During the Milan stage of the “Ecolimpiadi”, which took place in May 2023 at Parco delle Cave, over 100 students participated in various sports activities related to basketball and athletics, organised by Olimpia Milano and the Lombardy chapter of the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL). In addition to sports, there was also a program of thematic workshops focused on environmental education and biodiversity conservation.
During the event, the proposals developed by the students as part of the “Regenerating the Future” project were presented to local institutions, showcasing their ideas, inspirations, and desires for a greener and more sustainable neighbourhood and city.
